During the May Day holiday, Xuchang City adopted a "festival + holiday" model, launching 12 categories of 66 activities, 7 premium travel routes, and a 72-hour Three Kingdoms-themed travel guide. By seizing the peak season of the cultural and tourism market, innovating products, and enhancing promotion and visitor attraction, the city saw a continuous surge in tourism popularity.
According to the “2025 May Day National Small City Travel Trends Insight Report”, Xuchang ranked first among the most popular small cities for travel. During the holiday, the city received 5.122 million tourist visits, generating a comprehensive tourism revenue of 4.02 billion yuan, representing year-on-year increases of 6.7% and 7.39%, respectively.
Pangdonglai Shopping Tours Boost Urban Consumption. The combination of “Cao Wei-style cultural performances” and “Pangdonglai shopping” continues to drive soaring popularity, with tourists from across China flocking to Pangdonglai in group tours or self-drive trips. During the five-day holiday, the retail giant attracted nearly 3 million visits in Xuchang.
Pangdonglai’s synergy with nearby attractions sustained strong consumption enthusiasm. “Cao Wei Ancient City” and the “Nightless City” hosted traditional Chinese food festivals featuring “cuisine + performances,” offering visitors a cultural feast blending auditory, visual, and immersive experiences.
Three Kingdoms-themed scenic spots—“Chunqiu Tower, Baling Bridge, and Cao Cao’s Prime Minister Residence”—launched joint discounts: 50% off admission for visitors presenting train/bus tickets to Xuchang, same-day Pangdonglai receipts, or wearing Hanfu.
Xuchang’s streets, bridges, and malls brimmed with young people dressed in Hanfu (trendy traditional wear), reviving the splendor of the Three Kingdoms era. The city buzzed with traffic and crowds, while hotels like Sanding Huayue, Rebecca, and Rebecca Lotus Grand maintained over 90% occupancy rates.
